It may be the same issue for you.
I.e..
1 hour drive to Athens from metro Atlanta for a week night basketball game after work. The only way that the game is packed is if we have a great product.
There is local basketball (NBA), local soccer (MLS), local lacrosse, local baseball (MLB), local hockey (NHL/IHL) all competing for that same night of entertainment during the week.
I know that Football offers Saturday opportunity for those with a job. But the cost of attending the football game is much greater than basketball.
(And watching at home is free for either ).
You can throw it right back at him. There will always be a cart vs horse issue with those types of programs.
