would earn more by coming out now. If he is a solid back up at the end of his rookie contract, he would roughly break even. If he is barely hanging on or out of the league after the rookie deal, he would make more staying in college, if a year from now he were to be taken in the lottery.
Many are posting the argument you made, but they fail to account for the lost year of earnings. Four years from now, JP could be making $5 million on the option year of his rookie contract or he could be making $15 million a year on the first year of his second contract (assuming that he develops into a starting caliber player).
