If that's what JP is hearing from scouts as the reasoning to draft him mid/late first round in 2018, then why wouldn't he wait a year for that "likely lottery pick" money in 2019?

That's exactly what Arkansas's Daniel Gafford is doing. Jontay would be wise to do the same if the feedback he's getting is "lottery pick in 2019".
