Obviously, they are very close and would have preferred to stick together based on what they have said on the record, but saying he "divided up the family" makes him look like a bad guy. Like he left the youngest Porters in Missouri and only moved the stars to Washington state. It is fair to assume that he would have moved everyone if not for the fact they were in college.
