enter those academies, but never make a living in their sport. Same can be said for our NCAA players, however, at least they're given a shot at getting a degree. Many don't take advantage of it, but a number do. In UK/Europe, the entry to 'University' schools is a much more selective process than it is for US kids. There are no athletic scholarships as best I can tell, so, unless you have the IQ/resume to make that grade, you're simply not going to go to a UK/Euro University. If kids can be given the opportunity to reconcile their ability to the ultimate challenge of making a living from their sport, I am in favor of it.
All that said, I am strongly in favor of paying them while they help generate revenues for the schools. Cannot fathom why that isn't a fair and achievable objective.
