Smith, an Edwardsville native, averaged 5.8 points during a mostly disappointing freshman season. The 6-foot-4 guard started 19 games but shot just 33.7 percent from the field and 23.2 percent from three. During Big Ten play, Smith averaged just 3.1 points, ninth among 11 scholarship players.

Apparently he wants to be full time PG with a path to NBA. He had plenty of opportunities to shine, but Frazier was dramatically better and Ayo comes in.
