of competing if you refuse to play by the rules?

If you and I get into a street brawl, there are no rules and I will do whatever it takes to protect myself and keep you from injuring me.

If we get into a boxing match, I will do the same, but will stay within the pre-agreed rules.

This is sports, not life and death competition.
