there Is not nearly the antipathy toward Boone County as some racist backwater. See D. Johnson, Charlie Tuna, Floyd Irons. MU has more alums and students from StL metro than anywhere else in the world. Sure some of the private school snots dream of private colleges and elite public schools. That has been my feeling from everywhere I have ever lived among the best educated parents and kids. And when you get into a big metro, there are tons of people with no ties other than they moved there for work. They could care less about Mizzou other than as some cheaper safety school for their kid who lacks options or cash.

MIzzou is best loved by outstate folks, who often have deeper ties to the State of Missouri as a whole and thus are more incline to value being a Missourian. It is also why there was a more conservative backlash against Mizzou in outstate. There is a disconnect between what people want MU to represent based on your background, race, culture, etc.
