It is more a StL race thing than StL thing. And it has largely always been that way. MU needs a brand name coach that has more pull that Boone County just doesnt provide or Odom is going to have to win more to garner commits with the options these guys had .... Martin is a special coach for MU because he comes from that StL AA culture and can appeal based on himself (regardless of MU perceptions). BO is a small town Okie playing in front of small crowds getting boatraced by Purdue. Why would guys with no affinity for the perceived culture of MU be interested in signing up for that over blueblood brands?

One thing is for sure: SEC affiliation isn't the deal that makes a difference. StL guys wanted brands in the B12, PAC 12 and B10.
