Where did everything come from? Matter? Energy?

How was it all put into motion?

If there was no beginning, then everything has existed for an infinite amount of time already. Why is everything still in motion, given the physics that tells us that a perpetual motion machine is impossible? The laws of thermodynamics tell us that everything will come to a stop and all heat will have transferred to the point that everything will be the same temperature... why has this not already happened if there is an infinite amount of time behind us?
