rather complement each other... even though at times it might appear to some that they do. I think they are in somewhat different though overlapping realms, however.

But I do believe that the First Cause, the First Mover is necessarily God.

If there at one time was no matter, no nothing, then there would never be anything. The only thing you can get out of "nothing" is "nothing".

If there is NOTHING, it will not, it cannot spontaneously generate something.

Similarly, science tells us that there is no possibility of a perpetual motion machine. The laws of thermodynamics tell us that things in motion will eventually come to a stop.

The earth is spinning at almost 1,000 mph while traveling at some 66,000 mph around the sun and our entire solar system is traveling at about 43,000 mph while spinning around our local standard of rest in our part of the galaxy and 483,000 miles per hour as we move in our orbit around the galaxy... and our galaxy, the Milky Way is moving 1.3 million mph through space.

That is still pretty unbelievably fast given the estimates that the Big Bang happened some 13.7 billion years ago.

But if there was no Beginning, then the time behind us would be infinite. Given the laws of thermodynamics everything should have come to a stop by now given an infinite time span, no?
