I lived this, was schooled for 9 years in this, taught it, consulted in it, it's unusual to see onset as a teen but nowadays, people use and abuse drugs which can make you appear paranoid and perhaps change your brain such that you become paranoid

I might add, that psychiatric diagnosis is notoriously unreliable
