and the leadership in the state of Missouri and at Mizzou have generally been pretty poor.

Good leaders make good decisions and poor leaders make poor decisions. We can kid ourselves all we want, but our reputation as being very average has evolved over decades and it would take a long sustained period of success to changes national perceptions.
