I've seen that thought on this board. There is no similarity between the two from a coaching standpoint. KA didn't have the interpersonal relationships with the kids that Odom has. Odom doesn't have a problem retaining kids whereas KA couldn't keep them at all. I would say that so far Odom hasn't been a great recruiter and neither was KA. But, in all fairness, Odom inherited a lot more problems than did KA with the players striking. To fairly judge him on recruiting he needs a few more years.
Odom has made some mistakes without a doubt. But he is very well liked by the kids and I think he has a very good football mind and was highly regarded in the SEC as a DC. If he were fired, he would have no problem getting a job as a DC in the SEC or another power conference. They would line up to get him.
He may make some mistakes but he will get there if given the opportunity. And if he succeeds he will stay a long time. What other coach are we going to hire into this program? If successful, how long would he stay?
A lot of posters on this board want instant gratification. Odom should be given enough time to fix the problems. I think he can get it done.
The first question you should ask before you fire a coach is who can we get to replace him.
Given time, Odom will get all of the parts of the program moving in the right direction.
