The prevailing philosophy in college athletic facilities today is to "build above" your peers and rivals. Not always "above" in capacity, but "above" in terms of not just matching the current start-of-the-art, but in terms of raising the bar and setting a new state-of-the-art with innovations and amenities that other conference programs will be scrambling to meet and exceed the next time they expand, build, and renovate.
My honest question is whether this project does that, or does it merely try to match what other programs have built in recent years? It is hard to tell from the external renderings. Are we creating amenities for players and visiting recruits that they won't find anywhere else for the next several years? Are we building a larger and more technologically advanced video board and in-stadium tech than our rivals? And are we creating premium fan amenities that will appeal to and generate revenue from not just the fans of today but the fans of tomorrow?
I hope the answer is yes to those questions. Because if we don't have the resources, the creativity, or the imagination to do so, perhaps we should wait until we do.
