Thomas has career averages of 18.9 points and 5.2 assists, but only 15.4 points and 4.6 assists before Brad Stevens.
His averages jumped to 23.4 points and 5.8 assists at Boston. That's an increase of 8 points and 1.2 assists per game.

Irving has averaged 21.6 and 5.5. Stevens is the far superior coach, and will get way more out of Irving.
