People with more mature and nuanced views can handle that men are capable of both good and evil. And we can celebrate the good they did while acknowledging the evil.

Washington D.C. isn't named after George Washington BECAUSE he owned slaves. The honor is for other, far better actions and accomplishments.

A Confederate statue, however, is only put up to honor those that fought to keep men enslaved.

They aren't equivalent in the slightest.
