Mizzou is not located in a top residential area. If it were in the middle of a population base of 2 or 3 million like some of those other programs cited, attendance would be better. Not many people want to go see a glorified scrimmage 100 miles away when there are local major league baseball, football, and hockey games within 25 miles, and you can watch the games on your big screen UHD with HDR TV, and sit in your man cave with your other friends/family who don't want to or can't travel that far for that long.
It certainly will be the exception to the rule for someone who works full time, that they will travel 100 miles to watch BB games midweek as well. They will cherry pick the games they attend. It is not realistic to think otherwise. It would be nice if they made an effort to get their unused tickets into the hands of someone who is willing to show up in person, but there needs to be a push by the AD on this front, to continually convey the importance of filling the arena mid-week.
