were simply stacked upon one another? You are right, that is simple. It is nowhere close to reality but it is very simple. I realize that you are incapable of complex thoughts but thankfully those who design modern structures are.
This may also come as a shock to you but buildings are also not solid, like a block of ice. You see for a building to be useful there has to be a lot of empty space inside to move around. So a mostly empty building will behave nothing like a solid block of ice.
By the way both concrete and ice are crystalline materials which are very different from steel.
