may pay some taxes. But at what cost? What happens to the taxes of those whose identities they have stolen?

But you completely ignore the impact of the underground economy that supports many illegals. How is it that the guy whose crew is completely Mexican can underbid the locals by thousands of dollars when I need a new roof? Are Mexicans just willing to take substandard pay or are many of those crews being paid in cash allowing the owner to save thousands by not paying benefits, Medicare, unemployment and social security?

The underground economy is the one with the largest social and actual cost to Americans.
