85 opportunities to achieve one of the following:
• FB conference title — (0/17)
• BB "conference title" (regular-season) — (0/17)
• BB "conference championship" (tourney) — (2/17)
• NCAA Final Four — (0/17)
• BCS or NY6 bowl — (0/17)
Overall, Alden went 2 for 85 (= ~1/42 = ~2.3% success rate = ~97.7% failure rate) among those achievements, and he went 0-fer in 4 of those 5 categories (arguably the most important ones).
As I said, we have very little to hang our hats on from the Mike Alden era.
In general, he invested in facilities but not coaching staffs, and as I've said many times that's a poor prioritization of funds. The most important thing an AD can invest in, by far, is the coaching staff. Sterk seems to get that. He spent $3+ million/year on a hoops coach and look at what a difference it's made.
The AD Hall of Fame must have low standards in terms of actual athletic achievements, it seems (i.e. in my opinion).
