MU hired a D2 coach last associated with D1 in the prior century, supported him with D2/JUCO/high school assistant coaches, put ourselves on probation, lost all of the inherited assets, and created historical levels of fan apathy.

The fallout was self inflicted. Any program at any point in time that undertook such actions would become similarly cratered.
