ratings and audiences.
the idea that a news source is supposed to be fair and unbiased is an old fashioned, antiquated ideal.
30 years ago when we had what, 3 or four news sources on TV they had to be fair and balanced because a broad audience watched their show and if a commentator went left or right, they might lose half their audience overnight, and their ratings/advertising $$$ would go to their compeditor.
It's the same thing with all media now. Theres so many ways to get your news, print, tv, and thousands of internet sources. with so many sources, they all try to find their nitche market and hang on for dear life because audiences and ratings up for grabs are a tenth of what they used to be.
Samatha Bee said as much in a recent interview : I do my show for me and for my audience who are like me, and I don't care what anyone else thinks about it .
ESPN is doing pretty much the same. They have a target audience, they want to give them their news with commentary that will keep their audience's set on the ESPN channel.
sorry for the long - not quite on topic post, but this gotcha! news network being biased - it's done. it's a thing of the past.
