Example - Bill Gates holds 330m shares of microsoft - that's >$20b. His basis in that $20b is likely ZERO - do you think he's ever paid a dime of income tax on that portion of his wealth?
Gates is somewhat unique because he's donating most of it to charity when he dies. If he weren't and the estate tax were eliminated, that income would never be taxed - yet you have no problem taxing a middle class wage earner.
And the scales are already tipped somewhat in the favor of the uber-wealthy, sure many pay a lot of tax, but they have massive breaks (and service providers that find/create savings) that middle-class citizens are unable to avail themselves of.
