WADR: A couple of minor points

1. Health care is not just another good.
2. Health care is cutting edge and people intensive, therefore it is expensive.
3. People shop price for health insurance, they do not shop price when seeking care. They want to simply be cured. If consumers don't shop price, markets do not drive prices down.
4. One of the functions of government is "to provide for the common good". Health care is part of the common good.
5. It is counter to the Judo-Christian ethic to let one's fellow man suffer when it can be alleviated.
6. Insurance schemes are all based on spreading the risk over a large a group as possible. Voluntary insurance schemes allow healthily individuals to game the system.
7. This nation is wealthy enough to provide health care for everyone, but to do so effectively and efficiently will require people to adopt a "we do what works best" and drop their preconceived notions & ideologies.
