most of the times the teams just got beat. They didn't have the waves of athletes a lot teams did in those days. Maybe 88-89 did but he wasn't the coach and the NCAA investigation dragged on for years. That is where I will agree that better in-state recruiting could have tipped him over the edge. But I also think the Post Dispatch and Gordon's destruction of the Detroit recruiting cost him a breakthrough because he was well on his way at that time.
