She must sit out a year of competition even in a different sport.
She loses a year of eligibility.
So she could work for a year and her eligibility clock would not start but she'd still lose a year of eligibility.
If she does enroll in another NLOI participating organization, she can accept a scholarship but would not be allowed to compete (she can practice) and does lose a year of eligibility. So she'd have just 3 years of eligibility.
I think the NLOI has no binding implications if the student athlete competes at a non-participating NLOI school i.e. a NAIA program.
If a student athlete is choosing a NCAA school based on the coach, they should NOT sign an NLOI unless they understand they are not a high priority.
If a student athlete is choosing a NCAA school because that is the school they want to attend and at which they want to study, a NLOI is a good investment.
