I've seen conflicting reports about Porter Sr. signing a LOI with UW. The UW AD Cohen has indicated Porter DID sign a LOI and she will consider releases only after an athlete meets with the new coach.
Porter Sr's contract runs for another year. If he has any representation at all he'll force UW to fire him or negotiate his exit before taking the MU job.
NLOIs are binding on the student-athlete and the school. The only provision for rendering a LOI "null and void" is if the NCAA charges that recruiting violations were committed in the recruitment of the student athlete. SO, the student signatory must submit a request for release via the NLOI website. From the there, the School has some time to review and reply. I have no idea how long the school has to reply.
UW announced yesterday that it is hiring the long-time Syracuse assistant Mike Hopkins.
A quick google review indicates that the Washington System Board of Regents indeed reviews coaching hires and salaries. I do not find any announcement of a pending BOR meeting outside its regulard schedule (next regularly scheduled meeting is in April).
So, UW has announced the hiring and I would think Hopkins would not meet with Porter until he's officially the coach and he's not officially the coach until the UW BOR approves him and only after that meeting will the UW AD approved Porter's request for release.
Hopkins will provide a perfunctory interview to Porter Sr. before Sr. declines.
In summary, all this will take at least a week to 10 days and therefore that's the earliest we'll see any official news about Porter Sr. and his sons at MU.
