At the time he interviewed for MU's job, Haith was 129-101 for a .561 winning %, with 1 NCAA tournament appearance in 7 seasons and 1 total NCAA tourney win. The most victories he had in a single year was 23, and he had 4 seasons of 20 wins. This was accomplished in the ACC. He was credited with signing 6 McDonald’s All American’s and had been named by Rivals the National Recruiter of the Year.
At the time he interviewed for MU's job in 1999, Bill Self was 97-76 for a .561 winning %, with 1 NCAA tournament appearance in 6 seasons and 1 total NCAA tourney win. The most victories he had in a single year was 23, and he had 2 seasons of 20 wins. This was accomplished as an independent and also in the WAC. He had never signed anyone at a national level.
Self was not an established mid major coach at the time. That happened afterwards. Quin was the right hire.
