At the majority of P5 schools, you do indeed have to wait for your class to mature to "compete". A handful of big named schools are able to rebuild and compete with young personnel. They're drawing the cream of high school basketball into their teams and sprinkling in with other existing talent.
And what does it mean to "compete"? If you mean win, then Kim is an utter failure. If you mean to play a competitive game with a chance to win, then this team has largely done that, excepting a handful of games.
I don't disagree that the book may be written, but it takes time. Look how long it took Mike Anderson (with talent) to be able to win on the road. We made all kinds of excuses - his style didn't translate, etc. but the reality is, for the vast majority of teams, it's extremely difficult.
There are 351 teams. If you look at kenpom's Top 50, 7 of them have double-digit losses. At least 3 more already have 9 losses. Winning is not as easy as message board prognosticators make it out to be.
