But it does stop the easiest method of entering the country illegally.

All of the other methods you mentioned require resources that many of the illegals do not possess.

Building the wall also includes monitoring it and having people in place to deal with any detected intrusions.

Properly built, monitored, maintained and manned a wall, or even a fence, can be a solid deterrent.
