succeed initially and believed that with the inherited assets and the staff that Alden compiled for him he could at least be short term successful. It was rather shocking how ill equipped and prepared he was initially and the degree he was overwhelmed, but as late as our victory over LSU in his first season I was still holding out hope he could do it. Even through his first offseason I was citing how overwhelmed he was and how he focused on all the wrong things and made so many mistakes that maybe he would be able to take a step back and realize what was needed to succeed and at least have marginal success even if he did squander most of his opportunities in that first year.
By SEC play in his second year, it was clear he could never have any success at MU and possessed none of the necessary skill set or drive or remaining assets. I think in my opinion that is when he also came to the same realization and has been mailing it in ever since.
