Let's say a mother (and her doctor) attempts to kill her one year old child.. Who should raise that child while that mother is in prison?


The options for raising the child that was not killed are many:

1) The mother (and father) raises the child.
2) Family members raise the child.
3) The child is adopted by a family that wants a child but cannot conceive (or chooses not to conceive on their own)
4) The foster system until the child can be adopted.



How is it different just because the child has not exited the birth canal?
