Here is my list, in order of increasing damage to America and danger to the world. I welcome all comments, as your criticisms and suggestions will help refine the narrative on how Obama has weakened the American republic and made the world a more dangerous place.
No. 6 “I will run the most transparent administration in American history.” Heck, on a personal front, it took him 3 years of controversy to release his birth certificate, and he has not yet released his college transcripts. Has any administration done more stone-walling than Obama’s with Fast and Furious, the IRS, Benghazi, etc.?
No. 5. Hope and Change, Working with Both Side of the Aisle. Was there ever a more significant act of legislation passed in more partisan fashion than Obamacare? (Democrats had to resort to dealing with the legislation in a budget reconciliation bill, a form of legislation that would allow it to squeek through with a simple majority in the Senate.) Remember Pelosi telling the opposition that if they wanted to see what was in the bill they’d have to pass it? Obama preached that we needed to “resist the temptation to fall back on the same partisanship and pettiness and immaturity that has poisoned our politics for so long” and put an end to the type of politics that “breeds division and conflict and cynicism.” Has any other President in American history used the podium while engaged in overseas foreign policy events to launch partisan political attacks like Obama?
No. 4. Obama’s Honorable End to the American Troop Involvement in Iraq. “We’re leaving behind a sovereign, stable, and self-reliant Iraq.” And then when things went to hell (literally), “It was not my decision to end the American troop presence.” “We had to remove our troops over the failure to negotiate an extension of the Status of Forces Agreement.” But worse than the lies and deception was Obama’s refusal to listen to the unamious chorus in the nation’s military, who counseled Obama that is was madness not to leave a residual force. And worse than that was the squandering of the American lives that had been lost in achieving in a reasonable degree of post-surge stability, and the betrayal of the Iraqi people that had cooperated in the American surge, and their subsequent butchering at the hands of the ISIS terrorists who moved into the vacuum created by Obama’s skedaddle.
No. 3. The Iran Deal Prevents Them From Acquiring Nuclear Warfare Capability. Hogwash. And, as with anything Obama, other supporting lies along the way, like the need to negotiate with Iranian moderates before the hard-liners are back in control. The reality is the deal scuttled (with little chance of ever restoring) the most effective deterrent, which was the international sanctions agreement. The deal almost guarantees an easy path for Iran to the bomb after the 15 year deal ends. Together with the Iraq deception and the vacuum created by the American retreat, thanks to Obama, Russia and Iran are now well poised to dominate the Middle East.
No. 2. Obamacare. Joanthan Gruber’s admissions make it undeniable that deceipt of the American people was an integral part of the strategy to have the federal government take over a huge chunk of the nation’s economy. “If you like your health care plan, you’ll be able to keep your health care plan, period. No one will take it away, no matter what.” Let’s also not forget the president’s promise to bring down health care premiums by $2,500 for the typical family (they went up), refuse to fund abortion via the Affordable Care Act (it did), and to respect religious liberties (highlighted by his administration’s court fight with the Little Sisters of the Poor).
No. 1. Obama would help heal America’s racial divide. Did Obama use the fact that a majority of Americans voted him president for two consecutive terms as evidence of progress and a message of inspiration? No. He complains his policies are criticized because he is black. Ditto for his DOJ heads. He was never a believer in the USA as the land of opportunity, but rather as an evil empire built by founding fathers who were racist white Christian fundamentalists that is in need of justice for her sins. He has taken almost every opportunity to stoke resentment, and has almost completely squandered his unique opportunity to use the bully pulpit he has occupied for 8 years to speak to the real chains on the nation’s blacks, the disintegration of the family.
