bringing back real student-athletes that actually attend college to get an education. It's time to put this genie back in the bottle and let professional sports develop the prospects themselves and not rely on our colleges and universities to be their minor league feeder leagues.
Those that are only interested in pursuing professional careers should be able to be drafted directly out of high school and those who wish to continue their education can have an opportunity to attend college and participate in intercollegiate athletics as they do at the D3 level.
College football and basketball have become a complete joke with no regard for academic integrity. As long as "Jimmy" can help us win, we don't care that he can't write his own name or is affiliated with a street gang. I laugh when coaches preach about academics and character, then bring in a bunch of thugs that are barely one step ahead of the law or have to go to junior colleges because they are not eligible coming out of high school.
The major college revenue sports have become big businesses with a win at all costs mentality. The better the team's performance, the more money for the university and athletics department.
I would be fine continuing to be a fan of college football and basketball if the players weren't compensated to play. It's no different than high school athletics, people still support their teams and student-athletes enjoy the opportunity to participate and play. In my opinion money has been the ruination of intercollegiate athletics. Why should a college coach make more money than the president of the school or the governor of the state?
Over the past 40-50 years or so, the priorities of colleges and universities have really gotten out of whack.
