clearly lied through his teeth while campaigning and made no bones about it.
Just one example was how he said throughout the campaign that the banksters should not be bailed out. Then immediately after being elected he called in senators to tell them that it was an emergency situation and they needed $750 billion ASAP or it would throw the nation and the world into economic chaos. Congress and the Senators balked as some 95% plus of their constituents were dead set against a bailout but he twisted their arms and warned them that they had to do it NOW or the economic armageddon would be on them. No time for research.
The arm twisting worked and they reluctantly complied and passed the bill... and Obama didn't even sign it. He left it on his desk and went golfing. Mission accomplished.
Later, his staff admitted that they pulled the $750 million figure out of their rears. They had no idea what they needed and figured that since they were already pushing an unpopular idea why not just inflate the numbers? Not much difference in most people's minds between one ginormous number and another ginormous number.
