The FBI should not be leaking info to the press but what recourse do they have when they feel that their work is being thwarted for political reasons?"

Do you break the law, or at least violate the rules to save your country?
Does a soldier disobey a command that he believes is unlawful or immoral?
Should you ignore your boss if she asks you to do something that is wrong?
What is the job of the FIB? To follow orders of their socialist bosses or to support and defend the constitution? That assumes that their socialist bosses are supporting and defending the constitution. And when those are at cross purposes?
Obama has weaponized the IRS. He has allowed and fostered the ruination of the VA. He has undermined our military. He has politicized the State Dept. He said NASA's prime mission was muzzlum outreach. He has made the EPA the regulatory arm of the anti business socialist agenda.
And the media is his propaganda arm and the GOPe are the Washington Generals, paid losers to the harlem globetrotters.
And Donald Trump is George Custer. Outnumbered and surrounded and set upon by viscous savages.
The difference is that the nation survived the Little Big Horn. We won't survive the Liberal Big Horn.
