The entire state has a Louisville and Kentucky coleege basketball team and on rare occasions a decent college team in Louisville. Its the same reason why Alabama and Mississippi football rule the roost in their states.
It started eroding in Quin's latter years, MA stabilized it to some extent and the Haith hire destroyed it. I think the SEC move certainly hasn't helped. Losing to kansas, or KSU or Oklahoma on a regular basis was unacceptable - that element is gone.
