two pro baseball teams and a pro hockey team. I suspect that is more pro teams per capita than any other state. The sports dollar is spread thin and there's not much general interest in college sports - save perhaps basketball which Missouri has never had much of a pro presence. And frankly, I don't think the western half of the state was ever really all that onboard with the SEC move so there really hasn't been a huge groundswell of interest. It is what it is.
The failure of the bball program is still a bit enigmatic. We've had some poor coaching choices (certainly Haith, Anderson remains to be seen) and there is not all that much compelling about the rank and file SEC bball program. I guess fans would show up to see Auburn if we were winning but they sure as hell aren't going to be there when we are losing. Kentucky is worth seeing but nobody really cares because the rivalry is not there, and it will never be like the Kansas rivalry. Arkansas, for whatever reason, has never developed into a rivalry despite the CMA ingredient.
