this is a critical hire for him, and he reached out to a buddy. Is this guy really the best person for the job? Or is EE getting someone he is comfortable with, and hoping the guy will fill the huge void left when Pete left.
Let's face it. EE hired himself. He hired a guy, who he knows, who is a really good men's softball player, and a respected instructor, apparently. This is my concern. Most of the best college softball staffs in the nation, with some exceptions, have coaches whose skills and backgrounds complement each other. EE just hired himself. Same gender, same background, same accomplished career in *mens* professional softball, same technical expertise in hitting (although this guy reportedly is a good pitching coach too).
So where is the balance? Where is the complementary nature of the coaching staff as a whole? He hired himself. Because that's who he is comfortable with, at this critical point in time. Or maybe there just aren't many top coaches in college softball right now who have that kind of relationship with EE to come here and be his principal assistant.
I hope it works out, as a Mizzou fan. I wish he had gone in a different direction. Maybe this is the only direction he has left, at this point.
