and also a few reasons in KA's corner when it comes to the decision of retaining him or not.
1. I fully expect Willie Jackson to be at least as good as Namon Wright was last year.
2. Jordan Barnett (when eligible) will be better than Jakeenan Gant ever was in a Mizzou uniform.
3. This years sophomores, as a whole, will make a more significant jump in development between the first and second year than last years group did.
If these three things are all true at season's end, 14-15 wins is likely and should be enough to give KA another offseason with HIS GUYS to see what they can look like as upperclassmen. Please spare me anything about lowering expectation for year 3 from when he was hired because any logical person would modify expectations based on what you have to work with.
A few big if's that should definitely be enough for KA to be retained. (I'm going to pose them in the form of predictions so I don't have to say if every time)
1. We will see 4 underclassmen averaging 10+ ppg.
2. We will see the best defensive team we have seen in quite some time. (not saying the defense will set the world on fire, just saying it will be much better than the last 2 years have shown)
3. We will see a more consistent offense, that kind of goes along with the 4-5 guys averaging double figures. But I also mean we will see less scoring droughts.
4. We actually enjoy watching the games, regardless of the outcome. Obviously I want us to win every game but my expectation is that I will actually be interested in watching the second half of most games this year.
The first point is important because it speaks to Anderson's talent evaluation. If we have 4 underclassmen average double digits after hearing for 2 years about how poorly Anderson has recruited then that is a great sign for his talent evaluation. The fourth point is important because it means the some excitement is being brought back into the program.
I'm not sure how many of these things I actually expect to happen but these are the things I will be looking for this season.
For anyone still holding on to the same expectations for this year that you had 2 years ago, prepare to be disappointed
For anyone that is looking at this season as a chance for Anderson to keep his job based on improvement from his first 2 seasons (and more importantly give a chance to develop his players), there is definitely some reason for tempered excitement this year
