I work on internet and intranet security all the time.

The rule is, just because you're within NORAD, you still can be taken out by a foreign missile.

Which means, nothing is impossible. You just make the probability as small as possible.

Stand alone systems do not sit in corners. They still handshake with other systems to communicate.

And the biggest problem is backup of the data. That is a fact. If the data is ever compromised, we'll want those chadds back.
