I just don't buy the "oh, it's only a little innocent racism. Let's do nothing until it actually matters" line of thinking.

I really don't get what you object to in how this was handled. Kids were openly using racial slurs on campus. WTF did they think was going to happen? No one in their right mind should turn a blind eye to that. It's not channeling the thought police to suggest open racism in 2016 shouldn't be tolerated.
