There are lots of laws in place that require institutions to deal with issues of racism and bigotry in a fairly specific manner. It's not as easy as just telling people to suck it up anymore.

Honestly, we're at this juncture because it was pushed it to this point due to repeated abuses. Would have been a lot easier for people to just treat everyone respectfully, but apparently that just wasn't in some folks.
