I don't think even losing close games will draw fans back.

Fans want to cheer on a winner. In Mike Anderson's 2nd year, the TIgers lost a lot of close games against very good teams after being blown out a lot in Mike's first year and Quin's last year. They actually saw a decrease in average attendance in Mike's 2nd year versus Mike's first and Quin second year even while losing closer games.
