I'm not aware of another similar occurrence in modern basketball history.

While it was without question a foolish and indefensible decision by Alden to offer Kim, he at least had the foresight to give Kim a small opportunity at succeeding by overpaying for the retainment of Fuller. For a brief moment, there was a remote possibility of this working, it just didn't and too many mistakes were made.

I do agree that the hire was a very high risk move, with little potential reward to compensate for that risk. Which predictably blew up in our faces, just to a greater degree than could have been anticipated.
