Stupid. It isn't any more complicated than that. MU found itself in the fortunate position of Haith's voluntarily leaving, an abundance of new resources from joining the SEC, and amazingly Howland as a worst case scenario. We could have had a multitude of candidates, but worst case still fortunate enough with Howland.
Instead we made the worst and least defensible hire at a major program in 20 years. And then things played out from there in even worse fashion than could have been plausibly anticipated. Good times as an MU basketball fan.
