A 1 hour class on economics & financial planning would make

a TON of sense for high school kids... a bit more than that would be a good investment as well.
When I went to college I remember seeing guys getting into big trouble because they couldn't balance a checkbook. They would mess up the accounting and write a few checks that wouldn't clear and then would be paying $20 bucks for bounced check fees on each check, some of which would go through twice before it came back to them... and then the stores they wrote them to would be charged additional fees from their banks and would tack on another $45 or so.
On guy I knew had gotten far enough behind that the cops came and arrested him for it.
Had they been able to balance a checkbook they could have saved themselves a small fortune.
Some of those basic life skills should be taught to all kids methinks. It's more important than that last week or so in the 4th history class they've taken in high school.
