ble and I've known people that had a new vehicle have some significant problems early on.
If you get a lemon, yeah it could be a problem that would cost you your job, but you get to know your vehicles and can tell when something isn't quite right before something goes out and disables a car mid-trip. With all of the computer technology the "check engine" light will occasionally come on before you even recognize that it isn't running quite up to snuff. Then you can fix it before it ever would cause an issue with getting to work or whatever.
Even a new car can have a battery fail suddenly or have a blowout. Yeah, they're probably slightly less likely to have some commute interrupted before or mid-trip, but not that much on an annual basis for a well maintained vehicle. I don't think many people would lose their jobs over being a little late once every year or two or three because of a vehicle malfunction.
