Are you under the impression that the more than two million people here are abnormal?
Further, our household income is higher than Nashville's, and you'd likely be very surprised with the affluence in areas.
Seattle is nowhere near a slam dunk and them getting an NHL team also requires them getting an NBA team due to local politics. Therefore, they'd have direct winter competition in the same arena, as well as the Seahawks, Sounders, and Mariners.
In terms of pure numbers, there are more hockey fans in Las Vegas than Seattle. Percentage-wise, there's almost double in Las Vegas. I've got a feeling you're also overestimating the amount of people that are going to drive 2 1/2 hours to Seattle from the South Vancouver area 41-43 nights a year as well.
There's a lot of money in Seattle, is there enough for them to have that many teams and support them as much as a hockey team needs to be supported with gate revenues? I guess we'll find out someday. Your statement that they're the place that should have gotten a team (even if they had an arena, which they don't) is pure ignorance.
There's a few articles in The Hockey News that may interest you and likely change your opinion, but that's another tangent.
If it comes to branding, I'm right with you. Hawks is stupid for a Vegas team. I don't like Black Knights or Knights either. As a Blackhawks fan, I'm not happy. Like I said, it's likely a negotiation tactic and isn't real. If it is, who cares? Blackhawks/Nighthawks, WGAF.
Like I said, branding-wise it's a nightmare. The concerns for the brand itself should lead anyone with half a brain to know it's not exactly legitimate. If it's under consideration (which I doubt,) it's a low level preference for the ownership.
ETA: I made a mistake. Tried to compare Clark County to Nashville since Las Vegas is misleading due to political boundaries. Nashville metro is $1,400/year higher than Las Vegas metro (Clark County.)
